Leslie Nord's Random Thoughts on Friends, Family and Life

I never was much of a writer - more like a rambler that easily gets lost in a tangent. My blog lets me go out on those tangents any time I want to. So remember, life is like a roller coaster: sit down and hang on. Sometimes you'll want to scream, sometimes you'll puke, but give it a chance and you'll find it can be a lot of fun.

Growing Up

June 18, 2007 by leslie Leave a Comment

I suppose it’s s good thing – every time Megan gets a boyfriend the number of phone calls she makes to me drops. Sort of like when things are good, I’m not needed. But when things are bad she calls. It is all part of growing up.

Jeff was a little disappointed that he didn’t get a Father’s Day card from Megan. My dad was happy with my call and my card. Hopefully, Megan at least gave her father a card or a call. I hope she did something with her uncle – he’s been more like a father to her than her own father has.

Look like Megan got tired of being given grief every time she posted how she felt about something in her blog. That or she got bored with it.

Oh, but anyhow, before I depress myself even more – I won’t talk about the foreclosed house we went and helped the neighbors evaluate.

Retirement

June 11, 2007 by leslie Leave a Comment

The thought of retiring is very depressing. I have no retirement fund. The company I work for offers a 403(b) plan but doesn’t match any contributions. Couple that with it being non-profit and not paying “market value” wages it makes it tough to carve off the $150 a paycheck to try and build an IRA.

And it’s gets tougher to try and move to a company that might have a retirement plan – I have good health coverage and now have 3 weeks vacation time available to me. I suppose I would have to decide my priorities – vacation verses a retirement fund…

Not M.I.A.

I’m really not Missing in Action nor am I at a loss for words. If I could ever get that mental telepathy blog machine working – well, I guess I’d be rich too.

The silly notion that someone would find our resumes and want us to move out west was, well beyond silly. From the research I’ve been doing it’s probably for the best – it doesn’t look like the best paying jobs are out there. Granted, I realize with higher salaries usually come more responsibilities and headaches. I don’t need headaches.

Megan is still working her way through Dental Assistant school but she does want to go to a 4 year college. I keep reminding her that she needs to get moving if she wants to make that happen. I keep reminding her to ask her father if he wants to do something with her when he’s in town. I don’t want to be blamed for trying to squelch her relationship with him – he seems to be doing that all on his own. She calls him, he says he’ll get back to her and then virtually doesn’t. I guess he doesn’t want to spend any time with her.

We spent the 3 day weekend not doing much of anything. I’ve started a re-do project for our main bathroom. I scraped the popcorn ceiling off getting it ready for a plain white ceiling. Lessons learned on that, follow the tips given to you on how to scrap that stuff off – mist it with water. Lots of things I want to do to the house – just don’t have the money – kind of like my “retirement plan”.

Too many things on my wish list, too little time and way too little money.

On the bright side my sister and her husband have mentioned coming and spending Christmas with us 🙂

My kitty that blew a hole (abscess) the size of a golf ball is all better – his fur is finally starting to grow again. He still has the poodle paw look from where they had to shave fur for the IV but the fur is starting to come back.

Pray for the rain to move our way and the gas prices to come down.

Phoning It In

April 22, 2007 by leslie Leave a Comment

Today is one of those days I wish I could phone the blog in, so to speak. Mental telepathy would be even better. Problem is, I have too many blogs. I updated the business blog with comments on Social Networking. The Move Us To Idaho blog has fallen behind. Research on Idaho shows that it is being californicated. I need to do a soapbox topic on my opinion on how to protect students in schools and maybe one on how I feel about Rosie O’Donnell (but I don’t think people will be happy with my Hitler parallels and her). It is my soapbox though.

I haven’t done a update on the search for a used car – yes we found one and I need to get the pictures of it up.

Something that I’d really like to cover is Megan’s interested in attending a 4 year college – YEAH!!! I’m really happy with the idea. I think she wasn’t interested in it at first because she was a little afraid of the unknown. After being homeschooled for 4 years, transitioning back into mainstream academia could be a little frightening. But she’s afraid to talk to her father about it – it’s another money thing. There already is a precedence set for changing a course of study – D2 changed her path too.

I hope she can have a meaningful dialog with her father about this – even he has made mention of her need to attend a 4 year college.

Those of you who were betting that my knees would be the first "metal" replacements, you lost. I now have a bit of titanium in my cervical spine. I wonder if the doc will give me a pic of the post-op x-rays?
