Leslie Nord's Random Thoughts on Friends, Family and Life

I never was much of a writer - more like a rambler that easily gets lost in a tangent. My blog lets me go out on those tangents any time I want to. So remember, life is like a roller coaster: sit down and hang on. Sometimes you'll want to scream, sometimes you'll puke, but give it a chance and you'll find it can be a lot of fun.

The new “normal”

“I’m still standing”

April 13, 2020 by leslie Leave a Comment

…to quote Elton John. The world changed sometime around the first of the year. Early March, I got word that the Miva conference in California was being postponed until August. I wasn’t surprised. I was getting a little nervous about flying mainly due to the lack of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes that I would have packed for the trip. Then the day I was supposed to travel to California, the first case of this virus was announced in Alabama. Things had already started getting crazy by then.

I’ve been working from home for over 10 years now, so this is nothing new to me. My normal routine had to be adjusted a little. I tried Walmart’s Grocery pickup (3 times) and it failed each time. So I shifted my shopping day to Tuesdays and go first thing in the morning. I have always shopped with a list, now I get just is what is on my list.

I’ve made hand sanitizer (although it’s only used after I get back in the car after a shopping trip), made masks for family, checked on out of town family and worry about friends.

Decisions, Decisions

I haven’t had my hair cut since the last time I went out to San Diego so it’s that time again*. I really didn’t know what to do with it a year ago and I have that same dilemma this time. It’s almost, if not, slightly longer than it was when this picture was taken eons ago.

Before 03/03/2020

After 03/04/2020

Fast forward now it’s like this and in need of at least a serious trim.

It was a bit more off than I expected, but I guess it was needed.

*I started writing this post before the trip to San Diego was postponed. I just never finished it.

Wave When You Drive By

The January Rose

The December daisy gave way to the January rose. It started out as a persistent little bud that decided to bloom just before severe weather blew in. The last petals fell off a couple of days ago.

The annual trip to San Diego for MivaCon now has it’s itinerary. I’ll be flying Delta again this year, which means another connection through Atlanta. At least this year I’ll know that the venue hotel doesn’t have any sort of early check-in and to take in some of the scenery along the way. Maybe take in more of Rancho Bernardo.

I always find it interesting to see where the people who visit my little blog are located. I figure for the most part it’s spammers looking for a target, China probably. But then I had a lot of visits from Canada this month, 55 compared to just 5 from the US. I wonder what someone from Belgium was looking for? Nobody stays long, nobody leaves a message. So wave when you drive by.

Those of you who were betting that my knees would be the first "metal" replacements, you lost. I now have a bit of titanium in my cervical spine. I wonder if the doc will give me a pic of the post-op x-rays?

Those who know me, know to send lavender roses and daisies.
