Leslie Nord's Random Thoughts on Friends, Family and Life

I never was much of a writer - more like a rambler that easily gets lost in a tangent. My blog lets me go out on those tangents any time I want to. So remember, life is like a roller coaster: sit down and hang on. Sometimes you'll want to scream, sometimes you'll puke, but give it a chance and you'll find it can be a lot of fun.

A Little Change Up

May 25, 2010 by leslie Leave a Comment

I have sorely neglected the upkeep of my blogs. Daily Tweet updates are not the same as taking time to write an entry. The daily tweets are just snapshots into what I’m thinking at that moment in time. Seems I’ve gotten lazy and have let Twitter update my blogs and have rattled a few cages through my Facebook account.

So this morning, I’m going to do things a little differently. Instead of my afternoon treadmill walk, I’m doing it now and use the time to blog (thanks to the laptop shelf I have on the treadmill). It will probably be just as random as my tweets.

Finally got the book list from Megan containing all the books of hers that were damaged in the Nashville area flood. Yes, she was effected by it. She lost everything that she had stored in her father’s sheds on his property. All her furniture, couch, love seat, bedroom set, TV’s – all gone. Also in the storage shed were the wooden German ornaments my mother bought while my dad was stationed at Wiesbaden Air Base. Those are all gone now too.

Speaking of Germany, the much desired trip to Wiesbaden Germany for the 2010 all class reunion is definitely off. Losing my job at the first of the year put those plans on hold. Possible freelance work is starting to trickle in. Starting to get calls from people I talked with while at the conference in San Diego. I’ve had a couple of really good second and third phone interviews, but not having the exact skill set some of these companies are looking for makes it easier for them to pick someone else. But with the encouragement of my husband and friends, I am looking to make a go of this freelance thing.

Planning to visit my sister and her husband late July. That should be plenty of time for me to recover from my upcoming rotator cuff surgery on my right should. LOL, I am trying to practice doing things left handed, ironing left handed is weird. I think it’s more the need to trick my brain than my body to think left handed.

Surgery count, like who is counting? I guess this thought comes from conversation with people about surgeries and recover time. Okay, I admit I’m a little older and not in the same shape I may have been, but I don’t mentally plan on letting this slow me down any more than it has to. The first 4 knee surgeries where done the “old-fashioned” way, where they hospitalize you for days and keep the leg immobilized. The last 2 were done arthroscopically, the shoulder will be too. I also had some of the Endometriosis cleaned up laparoscopically, before I had the total hysterectomy where I was cut from stem to stern leaving me with a nice 10 inch scar. I was “bowling” two weeks after that. Well, I wouldn’t call it bowling, I just walked to the line and kind of flung the ball. But I was up and moving. So the shoulder surgery is scheduled for a Wednesday and I will be in Physically Therapy Friday. Not being able to drive is what will do me in.

My attempt to grow African Daisies from seeds has failed miserably. I think it’s mainly due to the incredibly hard water we have here. It seems to have an impact on all the other plants I try to grow also. The Shasta Daisies bloomed this year, after doing absolutely nothing last year. Hard rain last night beat them up a bit.

I’ve been trying to perfect a Beer Bread recipe. I think I finally have it dialed in and need to get it posted too. Next I need to work on a whole wheat version for my sister. Hope to have it perfected before we visit. But I also have my Key Lime Pie recipe and maybe I’ll make Tiramisu. I told my sister I plan on taking over her kitchen while we are there.

Okay, somehow the timer is not displaying on the treadmill, but I think it’s been more than 30 minutes. May try this change up again tomorrow. Really need to update the Soapbox.

Those of you who were betting that my knees would be the first "metal" replacements, you lost. I now have a bit of titanium in my cervical spine. I wonder if the doc will give me a pic of the post-op x-rays?
