It used to be so easy just trying to keep up with a blog or two, but now I’m trying to keep up with Facebook, Twitter, various groups and my blogs. I’m playing around with my Twitter feed, trying to focus it more on things that I’ve been meaning to post here and maybe have only been posting at Facebook. I know a number of people who pop in to read what I post here don’t follow me on Facebook – where I can be a little more selective as to who can read what I have to say.
My blog used to be a good release for the multitudes of pent up anger I have towards my ex, but the rantings of a mad woman can only go so far. Instead I’ll wait quietly for all the damage he has done to repair itself. The less I say, the less people will find themselves “in the middle”.
I think I need to spend a little bit of time reminding people that not every case of Type 1 Diabetes is hereditary – that was brought up in the first appointment with the Endocrinologist. We had even discussed the “Prozac Connection”.
Possible risk factors for type 1 diabetes include:
* Viral exposure. Exposure to Epstein-Barr virus, coxsackievirus, mumps virus or cytomegalovirus may trigger the autoimmune destruction of the islet cells, or the virus may directly infect the islet cells.
* Low vitamin D levels. Research suggests that vitamin D may be protective against type 1 diabetes. However, early intake of cow’s milk — a common source of vitamin D — has been linked to an increased risk of type 1 diabetes.
* Other dietary factors. Omega-3 fatty acids may offer some protection against type 1 diabetes. Drinking water that contains nitrates may increase the risk. Additionally, the timing of the introduction of cereal into a baby’s diet may affect his or her risk of type 1 diabetes. One clinical trial found that between ages 3 and 7 months appears to be the optimal time for introducing cereal.
The viral exposure is also a very real possibility. It’s still very angering to hear that family members continue to lay blame on my daughter for developing diabetes.
