Leslie Nord's Random Thoughts on Friends, Family and Life

I never was much of a writer - more like a rambler that easily gets lost in a tangent. My blog lets me go out on those tangents any time I want to. So remember, life is like a roller coaster: sit down and hang on. Sometimes you'll want to scream, sometimes you'll puke, but give it a chance and you'll find it can be a lot of fun.

More of the Wish List

June 8, 2005 by leslie Leave a Comment

Wish: Time to read a good book.

I was listening to an interview with Zell Miller about his new book “A
Deficit of Decency”. It sounds like a book I would like to read, but I
started thinking – when was the last time I read a book? I remember
reading the Miva Merchant ecommerce book that I gave a short review
on. I read that on the plane ride back from the conference in San
Diego. I used to love reading Tom Clancy books. I had started
re-reading Lord of the Rings but only made it through the first two
books. It’s pretty sad – no time for such a simple pleasure.

Even better, I would love to be able to read a book, on a rainy day, at the beach…

Not taking sides

June 5, 2005 by leslie Leave a Comment

After getting a late night call from the sister-in-law asking for help loading a truck at 5AM this morning, I’m a little more than tired. If I didn’t show up comments would have been made about me not being there. Little did I know that not only would the father-in-law be there, his new wife was there along with the mother-in-law. Seems like the plan was to get her packed up and out with letting her husband know. Considering I’m kept in mushroom status most of the time, I really didn’t know the whole story. I knew there had been some late night conversations with the husband – seems he had decided it was best she move out. The reason why are extremely vague to me – I had heard talk of him getting physical with her but there are two sides to every story. There’s a long history of hot-headed tempers on the in-law side including the sister-in-law. So I won’t take sides – I don’t know the whole story.

The sad part of the whole ordeal was the disappointment of being told by the mother-in-law she’s just too busy to come see our new house – it’s our first home. I suppose it can be said that it’s my fault – she doesn’t like me after the heated discussion we had about religion (yeah, yeah taboo subject, I know) and the Bible. She wound up telling us we would burn in hell and left in tears. I did go and apologize right away, but she’s not called much since then. She’ll come to town but not call. But the most painful thing I remember was once when I had had a heated argument with my husband about my daughter (that’s about the only thing we argue about) I had gone over to her place to let him cool down and her comment to me was why do I stay married to him?

Oh but anyhow, I need to get back to doing battle with this cantankerous Miva Merchant site that is giving me fits – I’ve got to figure out why my custom scripting killed the submit button, sigh…and then there is the laundry. At least I have Phantom of the Opera to listen to.

Firefox verses IE

June 4, 2005 by leslie Leave a Comment

Did I ever mention I detest Microsoft products? I’m a big fan of Firefox – I was using Netscape before most people knew what it was. So should I post a notice on my site that it’s only Firefox friendly? Sure thing and I call myself a web developer? Yeah, right. So I’m back to the drawing board to figure out what the incompatiblity is with the layout of the new blog. But is sure does look pretty in Firefox.

Those of you who were betting that my knees would be the first "metal" replacements, you lost. I now have a bit of titanium in my cervical spine. I wonder if the doc will give me a pic of the post-op x-rays?
